The Alliance

The Alliance of the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church has dedicated itself to the mission of furthering fellowship and service. We have luncheon program meetings at noon on the second Tuesday of each month, from October through June. All church members and friends are welcome and eligible for membership. New members are enthusiastically welcomed, but for those who cannot be as active as they would like because of family responsibilities or a work schedule, your supportive membership is encouraged! The Clearance Corner in the Annex is our main source of funds. A number of our members also volunteer at the church's Resale Shop.

As the Alliance begins a new year of programs, our Board has made some changes from previous years.  We will not be printing a brochure of the entire year’s programs. This will allow us to be more flexible in presenting more timely topics.  We will continue to have luncheons each month October through June; however there will not always be a speaker.  Some months will be primarily social with members bringing their own lunch, and the Alliance providing coffee, tea and dessert. These social occasions will allow us to share ideas and get to know each other better.  It is hoped that new church members especially will join us for both the programs and social lunches. Alliance monthly activities will be announced in both the newsletter and the order of service.  Some of our traditions will continue -- such as the Christmas concert by North High School in December, and the June potluck lunch.  Dues will still be $10 per year and are used to purchase items for the church and provide support for several charities.  Last year we contributed $500 to purchase books for the book cart, replaced a window in the clearance corner, and bought a wastebasket for the men’s lavatory.  Among many others, the Alliance has supported the Belle Isle Botanical Society, Services for Older Citizens, and Guyton School projects.  Membership is open to both men and women -- however, you do not need to be a member to participate in any of our activities.  We welcome any suggestions church members may have for programs or new ways in which we can be of service to the church and our community.
