The Reverend Mitra Rahnema
The Rev. Mitra Rahnema comes to The Grosse Pointe Unitarian Universalist Church as our new Interim Minister serving the congregation during this transitional time for the 2009-2010 year. The Rev. Mitra is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist who grew up in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura, California. She earned a Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies, with an emphasis in Biblical Interpretation at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She remained in Portland for ten years where she began a career in social research at the University of Oregon, focusing on parenting, adolescent transitions, peer relationships, and family development. She continued this social research work at the University of California, Berkeley working on couple relationships in families with small children while also attending Starr King School for the Ministry where she earned her Masters of Divinity.
Mitra's volunteer work is often supporting groups that create communities of social change and maintain a living power analysis. The Rev. Mitra's Unitarian Universalist activities have included serving as Vice President of DRUUMM (Diverse and Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries) in 2004-2006, serving as a JUUST Change Consultant for Unitarian Universalist Association, and currently serving on the UUWF (Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation) grants panel.
The Rev. Mitra was ordained by All Souls, Kansas City in May of 2008. Most recently Mitra served Tapestry: A Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Mission Viejo, California as an Interim Minister.
Mitra is deeply committed to the transformation and growth of our Unitarian Universalist Association and is honored to join the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church journey.
