Alliance Luncheon: October 11, 2011

The first Alliance lunch of the season is Tuesday, October 11 at noon in the Olympia Brown Annex.  Speaker is Dr. Christine Liff, who is on the staff of Michigan Neurology Associates.  Her subject is "Normal Aging of the Brain or Alzheimer's."  If you're forgetting things, are you just getting old or is Alzheimer's Disease taking over?  Dr. Christine will discuss some guidelines that may give you reassurance. Luncheon starts at noon, program thereafter, with time for Q&A. Please call Shirley Reeves, 313-822-4651, for reservations. Your guests, as always, are welcome.

Chat With Reverend Shelley

We’ll be getting to know each other in many ways in the days to come. Sometimes it’s nice just to have an informal chat and share some food together. I’ll be eating at different places on different days at different times around the area. I’m picking places with flexible seating and inexpensive pricing. Feel free to just drop in and join me so we can simply chat. Upcoming occasions include:

Thursday, October 13, 8-9 am Breakfast at Harry’s at 15506 Mack Avenue in the Park

Tuesday, October 18, 6-7 pm Dinner at Steve’s Back Room, 24317 Jefferson Avenue, Saint Clair Shores

Christmas Food Baskets for the Ravendale Community

The Outreach Committee launched the Christmas Basket Campaign at the Thanksgiving service and has collected $639 for hams in the baskets delivered to Ravendale Community Center.  We thank the Resale Shop for generously contributing $200 of the total, but any additional amount is welcome before the deadline for Christmas baskets on December 19. If you want to sign up to provide a basket, either a half or a whole, the committee will arrange the amount to match the size of the family.  We hope to provide 20 needy families with food and hams for the holidays. If you want to assemble a "basket", please provide the following items for a family of six: Canned yams or instant potatoes Box of cereal Canned vegetables Instant coffee or tea bags Split peas or dried soup Creamer, mustard, peanut butter, jam or jelly, Bag of fresh fruit Instant cocoa Macaroni and cheese Pasta or stuffing Holiday cookies, candy, or treats if you want to join the Christmas Basket Campaign, please contact Susie Boynton at 313-885-0824.
